Lick Off My Tears, Death is Also Dying ( VOL 2 )

Lick Off My Tears, Death is Also Dying is the debut full-length work choreographed by Sofija Milić. It premiered at the NZ Fringe Festival 2024, blowing away the audiences.

This work, a fusion of movement, voice and performance art explores the depths of human desire. It poses the question; What must we sacrifice to be free?

Themes of late stage capitalism and consumerism are at the forefront of the creative vision, guiding the audiences to question the values they’re living by.

Humans dream of having power, wealth, glory and fame - constantly looking outwards for fulfilment. Metaphorically a hamster race, with each performer on a different wheel, stuck in a loop of habits, addictions and routine.

Lick off My Tears, Death is Also Dying unmasks the consequences of these obsessions. Visceral and raw, the performance evokes space for self enquiry as it takes the audience on a journey of struggle and liberation to escape this shallow existence.

Can the performers and the audience, together, surrender to the honest truth; What we are chasing will not bring us freedom. All we need is what we already have.

Sofija believes art should stimulate complex and deep emotion, challenging the audience’s sense of purpose. The goal of this work is for the audience to leave the theatre space feeling strongly shaken up and potentially unsettled.

Thank you to Wellington City Council, Peacocke Dance Trust, and the Give A Little Donors for your support and kindness.

A beautiful madness.

Forking Hell. That was so uncomfortably painful, in the best possible way. A comforting bombardment of pain and suffering. Conceptual genius.
