Sofija Milić

Sofija Milić is a multidisciplinary choreographer and performance artist from the Balkans, based between Europe and New Zealand.

Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance, she has worked with Borderline Dance Ensemble and Foster Group Dance in New Zealand, and collaborated with Tamara Gvozdenović, Emese Cuhorka, Boglárka Börcsök, and Jenna Jalonen across Europe. Sofija spent nine months in Budapest as a dancer with the SUB.LAB.PRO Ensemble, performing throughout Hungary, including at Sziget Festival.

She is the founder and artistic director of L!CK Dance Theatre.

Throughout her emerging choreographic career, Sofija has delved deep into the human condition, constantly questioning her existence, actions, and the morality behind her decisions. These inquiries fuel Sofija’s creative research and form the basis of the stories she tells through her choreographies.

She thrives in processes that challenge structure and embrace unpredictability, transforming narrative-heavy human dilemmas into abstract, embodied performance. Rooted in improvisation, endurance, and collaboration, her work explores the tension between form and freedom, concept and spontaneity, vulnerability and strength.

Sofija believes art is the leading force of humanity, and has the power to make a huge change. She hopes her creations stimulate complex and deep emotion, challenging the audience’s sense of purpose.
